Welcome

Thanks for visiting my little corner of the Internet! My name is Melissa Yank and this website serves as a showcase of my writing. I’ve been writing stories since I was a child. One tale I remember most vividly was a single giant paragraph and featured an aspiring private detective named Melissa (go figure) whose sassy sidekick shared the same name as my cat. Together, they solved many mysteries and also saved a mermaid from some gangsters. (Yeeeaaaah. I don’t even know what to tell you.)

I am mostly a novelist with great interest in the fantasy and science fiction genres — the stuff I grew up with. My shorter fiction endeavours tend to lean toward thriller and horror — the stuff that terrifies me! It’s a weird and very tentative balance.

While writing was always my hobby, it took a long time to convince myself that I didn’t have to wait for permission or some magical hand stamp that said, Hello world! I am a writer! I am passionate about stories and characters, I’ve slogged through manuscripts, and my writing has gotten better over time. It’s taken years, but I’ve finally let myself walk the path I once thought was impossible, impractical, and completely out of reach. Thus, here I am, Melissa the Writer. Nice to meet you!

I’m currently cleaning up the manuscript for my book, “Keystone Calamity”, so that I can seek representation and hopefully get it published!
